Newcastle University

The Department of Chemical Engineering and Advanced Materials has a world class team specialising in bioprocess control and modelling, whilst the Medical School’s Institute for Cell and Molecular Biosciences has considerable expertise in expression systems and protein chemistry.

The Department of Haematology has expertise in cellular therapy bioprocessing including zero-g bioreactors and cellular separations. In addition, a new £30m Centre for Bacterial Cell Biology is currently under construction. The world class expertise in fundamental cell physiology that it provides will be of significant use to industry.

Durham University

Durham’s Centre for Bioactive Chemistry offers expertise in protein chemistry, surface biochemistry and protein purification. The Department of Biology has extensive expression system expertise, including mammalian cell culture and microbial systems.
