Ageing - Clinical Expertise
National Institute for Health Research (NIHR)
The UK’s outstanding NHS and University partnership, Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Newcastle University, offers the UK’s only Biomedical Centre specialising in ageing. The leaders in scientific translation here will be early adopters of new insights in technologies, techniques and treatments for improving health.
The Newcastle Magnetic Resonance Centre
Based in the Campus for Ageing and Vitality and undertakes research application of magnetic resonance spectroscopy and imaging. It also contains a high resolution 3 Tesla MRI scanner as well as a clinical PET - CT scanner for diagnosis of cancer.
Clinical Ageing Research Unit (CARU)
One of the Newcastle Biomedicine Clinical Research Platforms, the primary aim of CARU is to facilitate the development of early assessment and intervention strategies targeted at age-associated degenerative conditions. The facility also provides an ideal high-quality patient-friendly environment for phase II-IV clinical studies in the older patient.
